Do I really need a carrycot for a newborn pushchair?
Why lie-flat matters for newborns
In a curved or inclined seat, a newborn's heavy head can tilt forward onto their chest, narrowing their trachea and reducing oxygen saturation. A lie-flat carrycot provides a firm, flat mattress identical to a moses basket.
Alternatives to a traditional carrycot
- 2-in-1 convertible seat units (convert from carrycot to seat fabric).
- Lie-flat pushchairs (approved from birth with 180° flat recline and bassinet enclosure).
Check our Pushchair Boot-Fit Explorer to see which carrycots fold down for small car boots.
